While cabinets tend to be the focal point of the main spaces such as kitchens and bathrooms, it is the details that add the final touch to the design. The selection process can be one of the highlights of the design phase but it can also be overwhelming with multiple styles, colors, and options. In this three part series, we want to give our best tips for the top three categories of selections and help make this as enjoyable and simple as possible. Our focus today is hardware.
Often referred to as the jewelry of the cabinets, they also play a vital role in function since they allow homeowners an easy open and close for doors and drawers while keeping it all clean. Here are a few things to consider when choosing hardware for your space.
Modern or traditional? Farmhouse or French Country? There are plenty of style options available for you no matter where your tastes lie. Hardware designs that are raised and elegant tend to have a more traditional feel while smooth hardware with simple cures lean more modern. Don’t forget about rustic and vintage, they can add unique character to the area.
Brass, polished nickel, gold, silver, and oil rubbed are some of the choices offered by manufacturers which means there is something that goes with your particular style that will perfectly blend or add the right pop needed to your design. Browse through project galleries to get inspired and find the right combination for you, don’t be afraid to look at things that are a little bold or different, it’s your space and should be a reflection of you.
it’s important to remember, especially with the kitchen, that your hands are not always free and clear to open a door or drawer. This makes choosing hardware a key element to the functionality of the space. Keep in mind that there are knobs and pull-outs for a reason, each is better suited for either drawers or doors. Most collections feature both options making it easy to blend the two together.
Hardware plays a key role in the final cabinet design, providing not only functionality but a reflection of your own personality into the space. Be sure to have a few ideas of what you like printed off or saved on your device, as it will make the process more focused as you look for the perfect hardware and it will also help your designer know what to show you.
