It’s All in the Details – Lighting

Post by Stacey Walker. Stacey mostly works behind the scenes for Greenbrook Design, managing day to day operations, marketing, sourcing product and keeping the showroom beautifully designed. Stacey also does interior design & home styling for a select number of clients. Find out more about Stacey here.

In our final part of the selection tips series, we want to focus our attention on lighting. Good lighting can make a difference in the room, no one enjoys struggling to see around the shadows cast by insufficient light or the glare of one placed too low.  Here’s what should be on your list of things to look for when selecting your lighting.

Size

This is an important element since size matters in a room. Proportions are important, you don’t want the light fixture to get lost in a large space nor a small area dwarfed by a huge chandelier. Your designer can assist you in taking the measurements of your space and choosing a size that is perfect.

Type

There are three different types of lighting that each serve a unique purpose. Ambient which tends to be the main source of light especially overhead or recessed lighting. Task lighting is designed for special purposes and functions such as under cabinet lighting and a light above the mirror. Accent lighting is more decorative and highlights certain areas including built-ins and shelves.

Style

There are so many choices available when it comes to lighting. Wood and metal have become a popular material along with the classic glass. Brass, silver, and gold are still a good choice for multiple areas in the home as well. Entry ways are one area well suited for a statement piece, one that showcases a little of you to your guests. It’s okay to choose fixtures that represent your style and taste.

Lighting is important for many reasons since it serves a functional and decorative role. Look around for inspiration and gather ideas for what you are looking to put in your home. Remember to consider budget as well, something your designer is happy to assist you with.

We are here for you

We want your entire renovation journey to be an enjoyable one which is why we take time with every step including the selection process. Our goal is to learn you, and your specific needs then assist you in getting them taken care of. Our seasoned team of designers are ready and able to help you find exactly what you need. Come visit our showroom where you can already begin browsing our wide selection of hardware, lighting, and flooring for your home. Give us a call today or stop by and see us in Uptown Shelby.
