Our busy and hectic lifestyles leave us yearning for simplicity and organization. A kitchen remodel with a farmhouse sink, larger island and better lighting created a dressy and elegant farmhouse style kitchen by using semi-custom cabinets for this Cornelius couple.
Objective: Design an open kitchen with storage solutions that are easily accessible within all cabinets so they are both functional and beautiful using Dura Supreme Cabinetry, a semi-custom cabinets option.
The influential style of Kendra White owner of Pheasant Hill Designs in Charlotte, NC can definitely be seen in this kitchen remodel. A collaboration between Greenbrook and Kendra created a beautiful and functional kitchen. The main purpose of the remodel was to generate a better workflow, more storage, and better lighting. The homeowner was unhappy with the location of the refrigerator as the door hit the wall and it needed to be relocated. We really like to get to know our clients, or in this case the designer understood exactly what her clients wanted. Sometimes it’s the simple request that can make a person happy, like having a beverage center to accommodate the owner’s favorite beverage (Snapple ice tea). Take a look in to this remodel, and know that your dream kitchen is affordable. The cabinets chosen were by Dura Supreme, one of the lines of semi-custom cabinets offered by Greenbrook Design. We hope you agree, this is a fabulous kitchen for this couple to enjoy in their forever home!
Designer Questions & Answers:
What was your inspiration for the design in this home?
Existing kitchen was very dark…we wanted to brighten everything up and provide better task lighting and purposeful placement of kitchen appliances.
We wanted the end result to be Light, bright & Happy!
We wanted to incorporate an upscale farmhouse kitchen feel. We used ship lap on the banquet and as splash for the bar area.
Specific client request?
She was very unhappy with the location of the refrigerator as the door hit the wall…wanted it relocated. Island had a raised bar which did not allow for good work space. Really wanted to have a tile floor that she could mop with bleach on a regular basis.
Wish list? She absolutely wanted a pot filler…being an Italian cook, pasta is on the menu frequently! Second on the list was cookbook storage and linen storage.
Did you change the original lay out? YES
If Yes, Why? For what reasons or benefits?
Kitchen did not work properly in terms of work flow. Lighting was a major issue as was cabinet storage.
How has the kitchen design helped in these areas?
* Entertaining? More room for people to move around, new bar area with beverage center and ice maker so no crowding around the fridge.
* Space? We opened up the sun porch and removed the door which allowed this room to serve as a hearth room to the kitchen.
“This was a lovely couple that had waited a very long time to have their dream kitchen! They weren’t 100% sure about what they wanted…they just knew they didn’t like what they had! They did know they wanted white cabinets on the perimeter…They were very open to a diff. color island when we suggested that. Having a client trust you and know that you can interpret their taste and vision is absolutely critical during the design process. We spend A LOT of time with our clients during this process so having a good rapport is very important 😊 Knowing that a client is thrilled with the end result is so unbelievably gratifying”
